There isn't a wrong season to visit Cripple Creek, but each one changes the district enough that it's worth planning around what you actually want out of the trip. Here's how the four seasons break down from our front desk's perspective.

Summer (June – August)

The busiest and most predictable season. Daytime highs typically sit in the 70s even at this elevation, evenings cool off fast, and Bennett Avenue is at its liveliest with street events and full restaurant patios. Book rooms well in advance, especially around July 4th weekend. This is also the only season Gold Camp Road's scenic route is reliably open for the full drive from Colorado Springs.

Fall (September – Early October)

Our own favorite. Aspen groves throughout Teller County turn gold by late September, crowds thin out noticeably after Labor Day, and the district still runs full hours without summer's traffic. Weather is unpredictable this time of year — a warm afternoon can turn into a snow flurry by evening, so pack in layers.

If you only trust one recommendation from this list, make it late September. The aspens, the quieter streets, and rooms that are easier to book all line up at once.

Winter (November – March)

Cripple Creek gets real winter — regular snow, cold nights, and a noticeably quieter Bennett Avenue. This is when our heated pool deck and fire-pit cabanas earn their keep, and it's the easiest season to get a same-week room reservation outside of holiday weekends. Gold Camp Road typically closes for the season; plan on the paved US-24/CO-67 route from Colorado Springs.

Spring (April – May)

The least predictable season, with snow, mud, and sixty-degree days all possible in the same week. It's also the quietest stretch of the calendar and often the easiest time to book a package rate. If your schedule is flexible and you don't mind checking the forecast daily, spring can be a good value trip.

• Best for scenery: Late September, for the aspen color.
• Best for value: April and May, before the summer crowds arrive.
• Best for the pool deck: Winter, when the contrast between snow outside and 84-degree water is the whole point.
• Best for street events: Summer, when Bennett Avenue runs a full events calendar.
